Gina is a covert stutterer and has been an active member of the stuttering/stammering community for over twenty years, advocating equal rights and non-discrimination, particularly concerning those with lesser known or hidden disabilities. She is currently Vice-Chair of Stamily, a diverse worldwide network for people who stutter and their allies.

She served as Trustee of the European League of Stuttering Associations (ELSA) from 1999 – 2007  where she helped young people with speech impairments network with each other and become more involved with their national organisations.

Gina was a regional co-ordinator for the BBC’s flagship charity Children in Need, overseeing the distribution of over £2 million in grants to local charities in the North West. She also served as the BBC’s Nations and Regions Disability Representative, covering the whole of the UK excluding London.

Gina represented the UK on the board of the European Disability Forum (EDF) Youth Committee for many years. The EDF is a Brussels-based NGO whose mission is to ensure persons with disabilities’ full inclusion in society and access to human rights through active involvement in policy development, implementation and monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Europe.

Gina presented workshops, gave talks and lobbied for disability rights in many EU countries on behalf of UK disabled youth. She was a keynote speaker at the 2006 European Day of Disabled People conference.
